James Street School - We Love to Learn

On Friday 26th August we walked to the Whakatane Business and Leisure show to see the displays from all the different local environmental groups  such as Whakatane Kiwi Trust, Forest and Bird, Manawahe Eco Trust, Coastcare, Whakatane Intermediate Halo group (working to save the Tuna in Awatapu Lagoon) and various other environmental groups. The students got to view the exhibits, see their own work on display, talk to the exhibitors (many of whom are volunteer workers), take part in a fact finding treasure hunt put together by the Whakatane Intermediate students and of course we got to sell our Kiwi cookies and cupcakes to support the great work the Whakatane Kiwi Trust do to Save the Kiwi in our local native bush. It was a great way to end our inquiry into how we all can play a part to help save the endangered birds and animals in our own backyard and support the valuable work that our local environmental workers and volunteers do. Take a look at the collage to see Rata and Manuka classes interacting with the volunteers and their displays at the Show...
